Vieques and Utuado, Puerto Rico (2011)
Canadians have not generally traveled to Puerto Rico often (except perhaps as a cruise stop) due to the lack of direct flights. But I had the amazing opportunity to attend a meditation and yoga retreat in central Puerto Rico in a mountain rain forest resort.
I first visited an acquaintance on a small island east of the main island called Vieques. Both spots were absolute treasures.

Rome and Matera, Italy (2011)
I traveled to Matera, Italy in the fall of 2011 to attend the annual Women's Fiction Festival to shop my book. There was no direct flight to Matera (Southern Italy) and, therefore, decided to travel there via Rome. It's a tough job, but someone had to do it!

Collingwood, Canada (2010, 2009, 2008...)
My more local getaway is Collingwood, Ontario, just a few hours north of Toronto. Although I no longer have a place of my own there, thanks to the generosity of friends, I visit it a few times a year. The thing I love the most about the places I stay there is the silence. It is golden and I crave it, a lot.

Cayo Coco, Cuba (2010)
This was my second visit to Cuba and, on this trip, I was so desperately in need of R+R that I did not even venture beyond the resort. Cayo Coco is a gorgeous, unspoiled island north of the Cuban mainland with beaches that never end.

Budapest, Hungary (2010)
Budapest was my last stop on a much-too-short junket to Europe that started with a friend's wedding in Germany. Budapest was just a short jaunt from Salzburg, which was just a short jaunt from Friedrichschafen - or so it seemed according to the map.
