I'm Reading...
I generally have two books on the go at any given time, usually a fiction and a non-fiction one. I just purchased my first electronic reader and I am loving my Kobo Vox. I still have a few copies of hard books in my to-read pile, but once I am through them, I plan to do most of my reading on my Kobo.
Still AliceA good friend of mine had an extra copy of this book and gave it to me with a very high recommendation.
As described on the Chapters.Ingido site, Still Alice "tracks the tragic decline of a 50-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer's, and the impact on her family." I recently read an article by Canadian media mogul Moses Znaimer in CARP Magazine (the journal for active boomers) where he stated that one of our greatest fears as humans is the fear of loss of our memory and brain function. I am definitely one of those people. I even started drinking raw coconut oil as part of my morning ablutions because coconut oil is being touted as a remedy for Alzheimer's as noted in the video at the following link:http://www.cbn.com/media/player/index.aspx?s=/mp4/LJO190v1_WS Eastern Body Western Mind The same friend who gave me a copy of Still Alice also recommended Eastern Body Western Mind to me years ago. For some reason, I balked at the price of the cost for the book, but once I got my e-reader, the book was now affordable. As part of my spiritual and meditative practice, I have become more and more intrigued by the chakra system. I know these energy centers exist because I have been able to tune into them in a very unique way, but my understanding of them is rather rudimentary. By the time I am finished reading this book, I will know more about the chakras than the average bear, but I am not sure how much I will retain in the long run. Much of the information is over my head - but maybe it will find a good resting place in my body! Soul to Soul Meditations I read one of Zukav's earlier books, The Seat of the Soul, at a pivotal point in my spiritual journey and it gave me remarkable insights into the soul's quests on Earth and beyond. So, it was a no-brainer picking up this book filled with short meditations (one to four sentences long). With one meditation per page, they are sometimes beautiful, sometimes challenging, but always thought-provoking. I read a few each morning when I wake up to get the wheels in my head turning and to fire up the spirit. |
