I love to travel. I mean, I LOVE to travel. I probably think about traveling more than I think about chocolate and sex combined. And I don’t usually just think about travelling. I am as active a participant as is possible and this fact is reflected by the sums, or lack of, in my bank account. Unfortunately, in my survivor job – you know, one of those jobs writers take on to prevent cat food from becoming the main staple of their diet (which would be really horrendous in my case seeing as I am vegetarian), I am currently in a “vacation allowance deficit.” That means I owe days to my employer rather than my employer owing me vacation days. So, I am fantasizing quite a bit more than usual about visiting alluring foreign destinations. And my daydreams are almost always triggered by the tantalizing emails I receive daily from Tablet Hotels. I suppose I could simply “unsubscribe” from the mailing list, but what fun would that be? These days, the destination that tugs the hardest at my innate wanderlust is Vietnam, and it all started when I received an eBlast from Tablet that included stunning photos of the Six Senses Con Dao Hotel on Dat Doc Beach in the Con Dao Islands. For me, a heavenly beach in an exotic locale paired with luxury accommodations is irresistible. But even more seductive is a vacation where I am able to combine time on a fabulous beach with a metropolitan experience where the brain and the spirit are stimulated. So trekking to Vietnam became more than just an intention, but a commitment when I received yet another Tablet eVert, this time for the Hotel Metropole in Hanoi. What was it that sealed the deal? Well, the hotel offers a show stealing indulgence every afternoon at 3 pm, namely a chocolate buffet with “fondue, cakes and candies as far as the eye can see. Chocolate overdose is inevitable.” I mean really – are the marketing folks at Tablet targeting me, personally? It appears they are. So if chocolate be the weapon of death, I am ready to surrender. I tap the heels of my ruby red shoes declaring my wish to be magically transported to Hanoi’s Hotel Metropole at 3 pm on any day. Views worth swooning over. Could life get any better? And if open water is not your thing, this gorgeous pool is Plan B. Sofitel Legend Metropole, Hanoi, Vietnam. More of the Sofitel. Weapon of choice. |
